Adolescent's Programs

After-School and Positive Options Program (P.O.P): Our free comprehensive after-school children program has a primary emphasis on positive development, substance abuse prevention, academic support and structured recreation. Services are offered five days a week after-school on site at Melrose and Citrus Grove Elementary Schools (3-6 pm, Wednesdays 1-6 pm) and include field trips and meals on teacher planning days. Our services include: homework assistance, substance abuse prevention and positive development programming, snacks, sports, creative arts, fieldtrips, educational games, informational workshops for students, and quarterly Community Resource workshops for parents/caregivers and community members. Adolescent Family Empowerment Program: This is a free substance abuse treatment delinquency diversion program, funded by the Department of Human Services of Miami-Dade County, targeting adolescents between the ages of 14-17 and their families. Services are offered in a group setting weekly from 4-7pm. Parents actively participate through a parental support group offered weekly in English and Spanish. Case management, drug testing, family support services, information and referral are also offered. Click Here for Program Information

Regis House Service, Leadership and Resiliency Program: This is a pilot program based on a national model service learning curriculum, through a grant from the Florida Department of Education/Florida Commission on Community Service. The target population for this pilot project is eighth grade students attending J.R.E. Lee Opportunity School, an alternative middle school of the Miami-Dade County Public School system. Numerous studies have shown that service learning is an effective tool for helping youth builds self-esteem and other protective factors. The goal of the program is to use service learning to impart leadership and resiliency in the at-risk youth served. This will aid them in developing and practicing skills and behaviors needed to return successfully to the regular classroom and to resist substance abuse. Too Good Programs: Through a grant from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), Regis House is piloting and intensive intervention program targeting youths: at risk of suspension from school, serving out door suspension or who have been involved in other forms of pre-delinquent or delinquent behavior AND attending Cutler Ridge Middle, Southwood Middle, Richmond Heights Middle, Herbert Ammons Middle Schools AND reside in the zip codes 33157, 33177, and 33030. The program's counseling component includes psycho-educational group sessions for youth based on science-based curriculums proven effective in promoting pro-social behaviors in at risk youth (Too Good for Drugs and Too Good for Violence). A total of 75 youth and families are targeted for enrollment in this pilot year; so far we are on target to meet all stated goals and objectives.

Life Skills Training: This highly effective and proven substance abuse prevention program is made possible through a grant from the Governor's Drug Free Communities Program. Currently it is being piloted at two middle schools in high-risk neighborhoods, Allapattah Middle and Brownsville Middle. This structured curriculum is taught weekly on site during school hours to more than 80 youth. This program is in its first year and has thus far met or exceeded service goals including number of children served and developing desirable attitudes toward the prevention of substance abuse.
